Sharing Talk

The Nonsensical Ravings of a Lunatic Mind

ALAN FISHER is a magician, actor, comedian, singer . . . an entertainer who has been delighting audiences for over 50 years. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theater from Point Park University and worked for 4 years, on and off-stage, at the Pittsburgh Playhouse Theater Center. He starred for 6 years in national tour of the hit off-Broadway show “Big Bad Burlesque”, created the character of Captain Idlewild for the Idlewild Park / Storybook Forest amusement park complex, headlined comedy clubs for 8 years, and delivered over 2,000 singing telegrams. He’s appeared in the made-for-TV movie “The 10 Million Dollar Getaway” and the feature film “Bob Roberts”.

Alan began his journey in magic at the age of 6 and performed his first show when he was 9. Besides the Society of American Magicians, Alan is also a long-time member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (where he is a multi-time past officer of Ring 252, The Middle Tennessee Magic Club, in Murfreesboro, TN) and a member of the FFFF family.

In 2018 Alan earned the honor of competing in the FISM World Championship of Magic in Busan, South Korea.

Unlike a traditional lecture, half of the effects covered in this “sharing” talk are handed out to the attendees. Alan will review many of the effects and routines he’s developed over the last half century as well as his thoughts on a number of others. It will include work with cards, paper, sponge balls, mentalism and more for both close-up and parlor. He’ll also look at integrating theatrics into magic through storytelling and more. There’ll be lots of freebies, oodles of stories, interesting magic and tons of laughs along the way with plenty of time for Questions & Answers and general silliness.

Here’s some of what will be covered:

Monte Manifesto – Alan’s thoughts and handling of the classic Color Monte packet effect.

Houdini Paper Escape – a simple but very popular piece of paper magic with a Houdini theme based on the “Bi-Kolor Kut” effect.

Thoughts on Sponge Balls – a change of perspective in a single standard sponge ball routine moment that makes all the difference in the world

Buddha Papers for Magician Apprentices – a great idea for youth magic groups or any time you’re asked to teach magic to kids. Also, a unique up-sell for birthday parties.

Wizard’s Card Rise – a fun presentation for the classic Chopstick Card Rise effect drawn from the wizarding world of Harry Potter®.

Color of Numbers – a sample of an idea Alan has developed into 3 different mentalism routines for his act.

Counting on History – a sample of a mentalism concept called “The Kruskal Count” that Alan has applied to historical documents & speeches for school and/or library programs.

Poker Routine – a great yet simple routine that demonstrates the power of storytelling with magic.

Truly Impromptu Book Test – Alan’s reworking of the “Himber Book Test” from Tarbell. A totally impromptu book test you can do with borrowed books that was first published in the June 2012 issue of MUM.
